Sen. Durbin told a local Illinois paper that “the decision to move ahead came directly from President Barack Obama” and that he had secured the green light during a discussion on Air Force One earlier in the spring. But this gift to Obama’s Illinois homeboys wasn’t just a run-of-the-mill campaign favor.
Obama’s unilateral and unprecedented decision steamrolled over bipartisan congressional opposition to the purchase. That opposition dates back to 2009, when the White House first floated the idea of using Thomson to house jihadi enemy combatants detained in Cuba. As you may recall, the scheme caused a national uproar. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.), chairman of the House appropriations subcommittee overseeing the Justice Department’s budget, blocked the administration from using unspent DOJ funds for the deal. With bipartisan support, Congress passed a law barring the transfer of Gitmo detainees to Thomson or any other civilian prison.

China’s People’s Liberation Army has been conducting live ammunition drills in the East China Sea during the last week.

The fleet’s main forces, including dozens of warships, fighter aircraft, submarines and missile units, carried out 16 combat training programs ranging from anti-missile techniques to searching for and attacking submarines, according to a captain of one of the warships.

This is in response to the Japanese government signing a contract last Tuesday to purchase the Diaoyu or Senkaku Islands, although there is a dispute as to who is the true owner of the islands.

In the East China Sea, China’s navy, Fishery Administration and Maritime Surveillance Agency conducted a joint drill amid ongoing tensions over islands disputed with Japan.

State television CCTV reported that the exercise involved 11 military and civilian vessels of the East China Sea fleet and eight types of aircraft. The navy’s brigade of medical ships, tugboats, jet fighters and rescue helicopters was joined by law enforcement vessels and helicopters deployed by the two participating civilian partners, according to CCTV.

By: FoxNewsChannel

Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. consulate and subsequent attack several hours later on the annex itself was denied by the CIA chain of command — who also told the CIA operators twice to “stand down” rather than help the ambassador’s team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.
