Sources close to the Indian defense ministry in New Delhi disclosed Wednesday, March 31, that a military purchasing mission was in Israel recently to expedite the purchase of a large number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) armed with missiles, for deployment on its front lines against Pakistan.
Indian sources did not disclose the size of the order placed with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) – running to hundreds of millions of dollars – but they made no secret of their intention to build up their fleet of reconnaissance and killer drones for a possible duel against US-armed Predators in the hands of Pakistani forces.

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa warned against the “Israeli nuclear threat” and called for the improving of relations with Iran.

“We have to open a dialogue with Iran. I know there is a worry among Arabs regarding Iran but this situation confirms the necessity of a dialogue with Iran,” he said.

Moussa also proposed establishing a Mideast bloc which would include Turkey but not Israel. “Israel does not have a place among us as long as it considers itself above the law,” he said to a raging round of applause. blog it

AT&T said Friday that it is preparing for President Obama’s health care overhaul to cost the telecommunications giant an additional $1 billion in expenses in the first quarter, possibly forcing the company to cut benefits it offers to current and retired workers.

AT&T is the latest and biggest company to account for the financial impact that the health care overhaul will have on its bottom line. It said the tax ramifications related to the legislation that Obama signed Tuesday will force it to take a non-cash charge — an expense that does not require cash to be paid out but has to be charged against the company’s earnings. blog it

On March 13, debkafile disclosed that the Obama administration was pondering withholding from Israel military hardware that could be used for an Israeli attack on Iran.  In late February, we reported that defense minister Ehud Barak had submitted to defense secretary Robert Gates a list of the items Israel required urgently to stand up to a four-front assault by Iran and its allies – mainly air force ordnance, certain types of missile and advanced electronic devices.

Geologists with the Oklahoma Geological Survey said ten earthquakes shook central Oklahoma on Thursday.

Nine of the earthquakes were recorded in Canadian County in the early-morning hours of March 11, geologists said. Several were felt in Niles and Minco, geologists said. A tenth was recorded just before 6 p.m. about 10 miles west of El Reno. blog it
